Last Friday we came together at Hiawatha Golf Course to wrap up the 2022 Athlete Mentor Program with our Intro to Golf and Networking Event.

Students learned some swing fundamentals, and were helped by their mentors when they had questions. By the end of the day a healthy competition was thriving, and the community between the participants grew.

The kids learned of the history of Solomon Hughes and black golf in Minnesota. The students learned how golf has had and continue to have immense effects on players like them on and off the course.

Later, Coach McKenzie was presented with a mentorship award for service to the young men and the greater north Minneapolis community.

At the end of the day, over four kids and mentors walked away with clubs to start a new hobby for life thanks to the Solomon Hughes Sr. Golf Academy.
